Over all Progress weights and calculation....
-what's the value of this package?
Apple to apple principal... what i mean if i put some fruits in one package just like this photo, 1Kg apple and 1Kg orange and 1Kg lemon......then someone asks me "what's the value of this package?"
here you need to sum the apple, orange, and lemon ....but if you sum the weight of each one you will be unfair due to the variety of the price of each one of them.......so what is the most suitable answer..
-use equivalent value....
We need here a common factor between all of them ....it could be the price ....the apple has a price and the orange has and also the lemon ....so i can convert 1Kg apple to 3$ and 1kg orange to 2$ and 1Kg lemon to 1$ and now i can tell you the sum of the value of this delicious package that is simply
3+2+1= 6$ and for any additional kilograms it is very simple to recalculate the value.
-For planning and schedule needs...
The upper example exactly what we use in the over all progress calculation... for pipe line project total Qty 10 Km ....i already finish 5 Km excavation , 4 Km pipe installation and 1 Km back filled....so what is the over all progress of this project.
-Get weight for each activity...
This weight based on one of many factors or all of them....may be on:
1-the cost of each activity.
2-the man hours required for each one.
3-breackdown discussed with the engineer.
4-special case for the project.
-For this example we will use Man hours..
Depend on the resource loaded on the activities for example we need 1000 man hours for each Km
400 Mh for excavation 200 for installation and 400 for back filling.
for the 10 Km we need 10,000 Mh
for 5 Km Excavation we used 5*400=2000 (50% of the total excavation Qty)
for 4 Km installation we used 4*200=800 (40% of the total pipe inst. Qty)
for 1 Km back filling we used 1*400=400 (10% of the total back filling Qty)
The over all will be (2000+800+400)/10,000= 32%
